Addison Texas Municipal Airport (KADS)

Welcome to Addison, Texas, and the home of KADS – Addison Municipal Airport. Owned by the City of Addison, it was established in 1957 by a group of Dallas businessmen and is currently the hub for Ameristar Air Cargo, Ameristar Jet Charter Flight Express,  GTA Air, and Martinair, as well as home to the Cavanaugh Flight Museum.

KADS is actually the busiest general aviation airport in Texas and among the five busiest in the United States! In addition, it is the busiest single-runway airport in the country. Addison Airport is currently home to 70 businesses and the airport is also home to the Rising Aviation High School.

KADS is a bustling epicenter of aviation activity with a small-town feel and none of the intimidation of the larger international airports. In short – the ideal location for an Aviation high school.

Addison Municipal Airport Expansion Plans for Fall 2021

The airport is constantly changing, evolving, and growing. Recently, Galaxy FBO broke ground on a new location at KADS. Due to be open in the Fall of 2021, The new Galaxy FBO KADS will be on the southeast side of ADS at the end of Runway 33 and will consist of a 20,000-sq-ft terminal featuring a pilot lounge with showers and snooze room, passenger lounge, on-site car rental, and concierge. A pair of 38,000 square feet hangars and a 30,000 square feet hangar will be able to accommodate the latest big business jets.

This expansion will add even more aviation jobs to the Addison area and emphasizes the need for new hires in the rapidly growing aviation industry.

And the expansions just keep coming for this busy, small-town airport! Just this summer, the Addison City Council authorized the acceptance of an Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant offer from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in the amount of $8,060,300 for the design and first construction phase for extensions of Taxiway Bravo on the west side of the airport. This much-needed expansion will take place in three phases over the next few years with the first phase scheduled to start in 2022.

Keep an eye out for rapid growth, new business openings, and amazing opportunities for KADS. This type of explosive growth is a microcosm of the explosive growth of the aviation industry all around the US.

At Rising Aviation High School, that’s exactly why we train and educate our younger generations. We know out there waiting for them, is an exciting and promising career in a growing industry that includes unlimited advancement.
